One of Judah's better kings, Hezekiah took the throne and had to undo all the spiritual damage that his father Ahaz had caused. Hezekiah knew he couldn't move forward with god's people unless they first confronted and removed all the 'garbage' Ahaz had caused. God expects the same. He expects us to confess known sin and asking forgiveness before we can approach Him in worship and prayer.
