In Num. 17 God proactively settles the mediator issue once and for all. God established Aaron’s line as the mediatorial line and tells all the tribes to ‘throw their sticks’ in the pile and God miraculously sets Aaron’s apart. The threat of Korah to overtake Aaron was to con-fuse the access to God. God establishes early on that there is only one way to God.
